Hi, my husband and I are contemplating moving to New Zealand on the South Island, the problem we have though is I would only agree to move as long as the horses can go and the area we move to needs to be horsey and accessable to dressage comps and horse shows. There in lies the problem, I love Christchurch and the surrrounding areas but husband likes Timaru and the areas around there. If any one could provide suggestions on where we should be looking (taking into account the horsey factor) it would be greatly appreciated.

My other question is what is the average cost of having a horse shod? Also is lucerne, oaten / wheaten chaff easliy accessable and what is the average cost per bag?

Looking forward to getting as much info as possible

Hi, lucerne chaff is anywhere between $30-$40 depending on quality and who you buy it from. I used to get my stallion shod for $115 for all four but i believe it is a bit more usually, but again all depends on who you can find to get the best deal.
